CGD Color of the Month!
Amethyst
Continuing with the series on birthstone colors and how to incorporate them into interior designs, we have our color of the month for February.
The Amethyst is a semi-precious stone that is actually a form of quartz, the hardness makes it very suitable for jewelry.
Like I said in the first birthstone colors post, gemstones have been know for their beauty and supposed meanings date back to biblical times.
The Amethyst represents peace, serenity and royalty as stated in the Tiffany and Co. poem above. It also is supposed to protect a person from drunkeness! Now, I don't personally believe gemstones carry any special powers, however they are mentioned significantly throughout the bible for which I do believe. In the book of Revelation, chapter 21:19-21 describes The New Jerusalem with gemstones as the foundation!

The use of the Amethyst color in interiors ranges from a very soft lilac shade to a bold rich purple color. I know many folks that have adopted this as their favorite color! It works well with a variety of other colors like greens, greys and blues and can make quite a statement as an accent wall color.
I love how the colors found in nature make the perfect complimentary color schemes.
Another way to incorporate Amethyst into your color scheme without going overboard is to use accessories. Fabrics, pillows, artwork and lighting are all decorative elements. This is my favorite way to bring in pops of color to rooms with a neutral color palette. They can be changed out over time if a new color is desired, or you just want a change!
For a long term Amethyst color palette elements like tile, furniture and wall paper, flooring or even appliances will make a bold and beautiful statement!
Like I said in my previous post, the fashion industry is an influencer in the color palettes of home interiors, so lets not forget the bold fashion statement that Amethyst can be!
So here's the moral of this color story...
